Chicago Bears: Offseason Analysis (so far…)

I first wanted to formally apologize, I know a lot of fans have been reaching asking why I haven’t taken to the ole keyboard in a while, and I’m sorry. I’m sorry that your little life can’t go on without reading my terms of endearment. I’m sorry that I’ve been busy. Not my fault. I’m sorry you don’t understand how difficult it is to be a stay at home dad dedicating his life to becoming the best live-bet moneyline line gambler out there. Have you ever been the best at anything? Well, for that I’m sorry.

Soooooo without further ado… my opinions:

A few months ago I took to the old blog to articulate my excitement for the Bears possessing the Number 1 overall pick. My expectations for the team were rooted in the potential, and specifically the potential of getting a haul of resources for the number 1 overall pick.

This happened.

WR1 DJ Moore was the focal point of the Bears trading out of the 1st overall selection, giving Justin Fields a new toy and the franchise an assortment of draft resources going forward.

Still the team had a LOT of work to be done. Though the team held the most salary cap space in the league, Free Agency is seen more often in hindsight for the mistakes made, and not about the success stories. With a plethora of positions of high NEED, the Bears struck out swinging on big name OTs and DL. Still fans held out for the team to strike gold with blue chip players for cheap-mid range deals.

This happened.

Homegrown T.J. Edwards looks to build off of his Philly successes in Flus’ Tampa 2 Scheme.

First signing the top 2 inside LBs for relatively the same price as Roquan Smith – combined. Young players, high end skill in coverage, physical, possessing postseason experience, and one of which from the Chicago-land area. Is Ryan Poles Sammy Sosa Juicing? Because that’s a f*cking home-run (sorry no swearing).

(no swearing)

Next, the Bears signed a young, nasty guard in Nate Davis from Tennessee. Perennial starter, good contract, physical, and has playoff experience. Starters in TE Robert Tonyan and RB D’onta Foreman were added on one year deals. As were rotational DL in DeMarcus Walker, Andrew Billings, and Rasheem Green.

In order to hammer home my thoughts, look at the June 1st Bears roster from last year.

Did you look? Is anyone even still reading? Well look below at the current Bears roster. Upgrades at EVERY position. Running back is the single argument one can make, but the depth added there is noticeable.

I see the depth on the current roster by far the most enticing. The starters from last year who earned their right to fight for a spot gives me hope for the Bears not just now, but for the long term. If this is the type of calculated and systematic approach we can expect from Poles and Flus year in and year out then us Bears fans are in for a treat. Bear down for the most exciting season in what feels like years.

Roschon Johnson defines what the Bears are building. Toughness and Character. Grit and Depth. (Horns UP)

This is a roster that is ready to compete RIGHT NOW. With roster cuts and trade rumors still brewing before week one I know this staff won’t be done constructing this roster, but at the moment things are looking pretty good. Just enjoy the present, and hope for a better future.

Bang.

The Bears are BACK (please like and subscribe).
